Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can I expect during my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss your goals, concerns, and what you're hoping to achieve through therapy. It's a safe space to share, and there's no pressure to dive into anything you're not ready for.
  • How long are your therapy sessions?
Sessions typically last 50 minutes, but we can discuss adjustments if needed to suit your specific needs.
  • Do you offer virtual therapy sessions?
Yes, I offer virtual sessions via a secure platform, so you can access therapy from the comfort of your home.
  • How do I book a session with you?
You can book a session by contacting me through my website, email, or phone. Email is the easiest way to get in touch with me, as I can't always come to the phone. I’ll guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Missed sessions or late cancellations may incur a fee.
  • Will you tell me silly puns during our sessions?
I do my best to keep my silly sense of humour in check during sessions. But, if you bring a good pun, I’ll definitely appreciate it!
  • Will my insurance plan cover your services?
If your extended health insurance covers the services of a Registered Psychotherapist, then yes, my sessions will be covered. Most programs do, but it’s always a good idea to double-check with your provider.
  • Do you offer a sliding fee scale?
I don’t offer a sliding scale. My rates are competitive and reduced for those who don’t have health coverage through extended benefits.
  • What is your approach to therapy?
My approach is client-centred and integrative, drawing from evidence-based methods like CBT, EMDR, and mindfulness to tailor therapy to your unique needs.
  • What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a specialized therapy designed to help process and heal from trauma or distressing memories. It uses guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to reduce the emotional intensity of painful memories so you can move forward with less distress.
  • What is CBT?
CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is a practical, evidence-based approach to managing anxiety, stress, and other challenges. It works by helping you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours, empowering you to better handle difficult situations and emotions.
  • Why did my fertility doctor suggest I book a session with you?
Fertility clinics often require counselling sessions when using third-party fertility treatments, like donor eggs, sperm, or gestational carriers. This is to ensure you're fully informed and prepared for the process. Some clinics also recommend or require a session before starting IVF for similar reasons.
  • What issues do you specialize in?
I specialize in areas such as anxiety, stress, trauma, fertility-related challenges, and personal growth. If you're unsure if I can help with your specific concern, feel free to reach out.
  • How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals and the challenges you're facing. Some clients find a few sessions helpful, while others prefer ongoing support.
  • Is therapy confidential?
Yes, everything you share in therapy is confidential, with a few exceptions required by law, such as if there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others.
