Don't make your goal in life 'happiness'. Happiness is an emotion and we can't expect to feel happy all the time. Your goal should be to have a fulfilling life.
Focus on connection with other humans. Real connection, not through a screen! Research studies consistently show that people who report the most life satisfaction are those who have strong social ties. And focus on quality over quantity.
Find meaning and/or purpose. This can be through your paid work/career or through a role (friend, volunteer, father, etc.), creative activity, athletic achievements, etc.
Prioritize your health/fitness. Chronic illness and/or poor fitness compromises quality of life. Never compromise on sleep, it is critical for physical and mental resilience. Move your body as much as possible. People who exercise regularly generally report better mental health and life satisfaction. Eat a diet that includes mostly high nutrition foods (yes like fruits and veggies, as well as proteins, legumes, and whole grains).
Take advice from people's most common end of life regrets:
Prioritize people over work/money/material things (consistent with #2)
Be less self-critical
stop giving a shit what other people think
Practice gratitude. Its normal for us to make social comparisons to those who are more wealthy, attractive, successful, etc. But try not to take for granted your blessings: Health, friends and family, secure housing/food supply, living in a safe place free of war and conflict. Many people never get these privileges!
Practice "Awe". Get outside into nature as much as possible and notice the wonders of the universe. Personally, I love a good sunrise! Seriously, make sure to spend some time outdoors every day, even as little as 10 minutes.
Laugh. Laughter is the best medicine! Life is so much better with levity. Try not to take everything (including yourself) so seriously!
